December Update

A strong end to 2015 as CHORUS signs on new funders, partners, and members

CHORUS announced an agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF) in November as part of the agency’s continued commitment to expand public access to the results of its funded research. NSF will employ the CHORUS service to build on open standards, distributed networks, and established infrastructure to enable agency indexing of articles, advance access to publicly available research articles, and enable the long-term preservation of and perpetual access to scholarly articles reporting on NSF-funded research. In December, the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and CHORUS announced a pilot project launched this fall to help improve access to the results of NIST-funded research. Read the full release.

CHORUS has signed an agreement with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), a science agency for the US Department of the Interior, to advance public access to articles reporting on USGS funded research. Read the full release.

More Members, More Content
CHORUS currently has 40 members with a global representation of publishers, societies, affiliates and industry associations. Our publisher members recognize that CHORUS can ease the burden of compliance in an increasingly complex landscape. Since our last update, CHORUS has welcomed the following new members:

  • American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
  • Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
  • STM Association
  • Taylor & Francis Group

We are currently monitoring and auditing more than 188,000 articles reporting on funded research, 41,000+ of which are already publicly accessible, and more are being added on a daily basis. CHORUS reports this data live on our homepage, and via the 24 agency dashboards, which also provide access to each article we monitor. Publishers and societies also receive a members-only dashboard that tracks public access compliance of articles in their publications.
