CHORUS Forum: Are We Ready for Data Citation Metrics?

October 28, 2021 – Free online meeting
28 October @ 11 AM – 1 PM EDT

Scholarly data has become one of the most important components of Open Science. Governments and funders are mandating that researchers deposit their data in repositories and supply supporting metadata. This extra work will only get done if researchers are given proper credit for their data outputs. But, how prepared is the scholarly ecosystem for data citation metrics?

The first half of this CHORUS Forum will explore the issues from the perspectives of the various stakeholders including researchers, research officers, librarians, and funders. The second hour will focus on the infrastructure efforts, community advocacy and adoption, and the next steps needed to move toward a solution.

Presentations and video available below.

How do we value shared research data?
In treating data as a first-class research product, we need clear measures that describe the quality and impact of a shared data product.  Speakers will explore this question from the lens of researchers who share data, academic culture and policies, academic research data services, and funders who need to evaluate their investments.

Moderator: Sarah Nusser, Professor emerita of statistics, Iowa State University, and Research professor, Biocomplexity Institute, University of Virginia
