CHORUS Events

Open science practices and robust persistent identifier (PID) ecosystems can accelerate research progress, improve transparency, and streamline research administration, increasing impact across the global scholarly landscape. As a result, many countries and funders are now developing PID strategies. At the same time, broader adoption requires researchers’ understanding supported by clear, user-centered explanations of the practical benefits for their day-today work.
This JOSS session will bring together speakers involved in formulating and setting PID strategies, with a particular focus on tracking research articles and dataset outputs. It will also highlight international efforts to strengthen consistent tracking of research outputs and to improve research impact assessment. The session will include practical examples of how PIDs can simplify inputs for grant applications, reporting, and evaluation, helping reduce researchers’ administrative burden. Building on these perspectives, the session will explore both what future PID strategies should aim to achieve, and how these strategies can be promoted in ways that researchers can adopt without additional burden and with clear, realistic benefits.
